Safety in Dating
Masquerading Dating is designed for safe, character-driven connections. Here are safety guidelines.
In-Character Profiles
Remember:
- All dating profiles are in-character
- You're connecting through characters, not real identities
- Use Direct Monologue to get to know someone out-of-character
Getting to Know Someone
Before meeting in person:
- Use Direct Monologue to chat out-of-character
- Take time to get to know them
- Trust your instincts
- Meet in public places initially
Privacy Protection
Protect your privacy while using Masquerading Dating:
- Don't share personal information too quickly: Take your time before revealing your full name, phone number, address, or workplace
- Keep your real identity separate: Your character is the initial connection point—reveal your true self gradually
- Use Direct Monologue for private conversations: Keep conversations within the platform until you feel comfortable moving off-platform
- Be cautious with photos: Avoid sharing identifiable location details in photos
- Protect financial information: Never share bank details, payment information, or send money to someone you've only met online
Meeting in Person
If you decide to meet someone in person:
- Meet in public: Always choose busy, public locations for first meetings (cafés, restaurants, parks)
- Tell someone where you're going: Share your plans with a trusted friend or family member
- Arrange your own transport: Don't rely on your date to pick you up or drop you off initially
- Stay sober: Keep a clear head during first meetings
- Trust your instincts: If something feels off, it's okay to leave
- Keep your phone charged: Ensure you can contact someone if needed
Red Flags to Watch For
Be cautious if someone:
- Pressures you to meet in person immediately
- Asks for money or financial assistance
- Refuses to video chat or meet in public
- Becomes aggressive or overly possessive quickly
- Makes you feel uncomfortable or pressured
- Asks for explicit photos or makes unwanted sexual advances
- Avoids answering questions about themselves
- Their story or details don't add up
Reporting Issues
If you encounter inappropriate behavior or feel unsafe:
- Prefer the in-app support ticket: Open the app, click the cog, then Share Feedback
- Report immediately: Use the Contact Form to report (select "Report Inappropriate Behavior")
- Stop communication: Don't feel obligated to continue talking to someone who makes you uncomfortable
- Document evidence: Take screenshots of inappropriate messages or behavior
- Contact authorities: For serious threats or illegal behavior, contact local police
