Masquerading Dating: Making Connections
Masquerading Dating is a hidden feature for in-character dating profiles. Our tagline: "Making Connections One Costume At A Time®" - for people who want to meet someone who understands their love of Masquerading.
What Makes Masquerading Dating Unique?
This isn't regular dating. Masquerading Dating is:
- Character-driven: Every profile begins with the character or costume side first
- Story-focused: Connections are part of your narrative
- Hidden by default: You must unlock it to see it
Browsing Dating Profiles as Lanyard Cards
In Masquerading Dating, profiles appear as lanyard cards. You always meet the character first, with the option to flip the lanyard and see the person’s dating profile when you’re ready.
The front of the lanyard (character side)
- Character image, name, tagline, and bio
- This is the “in-character” first impression
- You can choose to connect with the character (see below)
Flip the lanyard (behind the mask)
- Reveals the person’s dating profile and the real-world details they’ve chosen to share
- Gives you a two-layer connection experience: character chemistry first, person second
Connect With a Character vs Connect With a Person
From a dating lanyard you can take two different actions:
- Connect with the character: opens a new Green Room for in-character chat
- Connect with the person: sends a Direct Monologue (DM) request that they can accept or decline
For a full side-by-side explanation of Masquerading As, Backstage, and Masquerading Dating pass behavior, see Pass Types & Lanyards Explained.
Hearts, Sorting, and Shuffle (Discovering New People)
Masquerading Dating is designed to help you both keep track and keep discovering:
- When you connect with a person, a heart appears on their card so you know you’ve already sent a connection
- Cards with hearts are sorted to the top of your dating view
- Use the Shuffle option to mix the order and get fresh recommendations each time
- Your own profile will not appear (you can’t date yourself)
Per-Character Dating
Dating is managed per-character, not per-account:
- Toggle "Open to Connections" on individual characters (up to 3 at once)
- Each character gets its own dating tagline
- Your Dating Bio and Dating Portfolio are shared across all dating characters
- Enable dating when creating a new character, or via Dressing Room → Manage Characters → pencil icon on existing ones
- Once at least one character is open to connections, Masquerading Dating appears in your navigation
If you haven’t enabled it yet, see Unlocking Dating: "Open to Connections".
