Unlocking Dating: "Open to Connections"

Masquerading Dating: Making connections one costume at a time. Dating is managed per-character. You choose which of your characters are "Open to Connections" — up to 3 at a time.

How to Enable Dating on a Character

Dating is toggled on or off for individual characters, not your whole account:

  1. Go to your Dressing Room and open Manage Characters
  2. When creating a new character, check the "Open to Connections" toggle and add a dating tagline
  3. For existing characters, click Edit and scroll to the Masquerading Dating section at the bottom
  4. Toggle "Open to Connections" on and fill in the dating tagline
  5. You can also add your Dating Bio (shared across all dating characters) and upload photos to your Dating Portfolio

Limit: Up to 3 characters can be open to connections at the same time.

Once at least one character is open to connections, Masquerading Dating will appear in your navigation menu.

What's Per-Character vs Per-Person

  • Per-character: The "Open to Connections" toggle and dating tagline are unique to each character
  • Per-person (shared): Your Dating Bio and Dating Portfolio are shown on all your dating cards, regardless of which character is displayed

Privacy: Who Can See Your Dating Profile

When you enable dating on a character:

  • That character's dating profile is hidden from anyone who doesn't have dating enabled
  • Your dating characters only appear to other users who also have at least one character open to connections
  • You can disable dating on any character at any time via Dressing Room → Manage Characters → pencil icon

How Masquerading Dating Works

Unlike traditional dating apps, Masquerading Dating is character-first. You meet someone through their character, and only choose to reveal the person behind the mask when you're ready.

1. Browse Profiles as Lanyard Cards (Per-Character)

Dating profiles are displayed as lanyard cards. The first view you see is always the character you’re interacting with:

  • Front of the lanyard (character side): character image, name, tagline, and bio
  • Browse freely and search for characters you’d like to connect with
  • Your own profile will not appear (you can’t date yourself)

2. Flip the Lanyard to Reveal the Dating Profile

When you flip the lanyard, you’ll see who is “behind the mask”:

  • Back of the lanyard (person side): their dating profile and real-world details they’ve chosen to share
  • You can flip back and forth any time
  • This gives you a two-layer experience: character chemistry first, person second

3. Choose How You Want to Connect

On a lanyard you can take two different actions:

  • Connect with the character: opens a new Green Room for in-character chat
  • Connect with the person: sends a Direct Monologue (DM) request that they can accept or decline

4. Hearts, Sorting, and Shuffle (Finding New People)

Masquerading Dating helps you keep track of who you’ve reached out to and discover new profiles:

  • When you connect with a person, a heart appears on their card so you can see you’ve already sent a connection
  • Cards with hearts appear at the top of your dating view
  • Use the Shuffle option to mix the order and get fresh recommendations each time

The Philosophy: Character First, Person Second

Masquerading Dating is designed around the idea of connecting with the character first. You're not just dating someone—you're entering their fictional world. The lanyard flip reveals the person behind the character, creating a unique two-layer connection experience.

Disabling Masquerading Dating

You can disable dating on any character at any time:

  1. Go to Dressing RoomManage Characters, then tap the pencil icon on the character
  2. Scroll to the Masquerading Dating section and uncheck "Open to Connections"
  3. If no characters are open to connections, Masquerading Dating will be hidden from your navigation
  4. That character will no longer appear in other users' dating views
