Pass Types & Lanyards Explained
Masquerading uses a lanyard system so you can meet characters first, then choose how to connect. This guide explains the difference between the three pass views and what each action does.
1) Masquerading As Pass / Lanyard
This is the character-browser lanyard in Masquerading As... where you discover public characters.
- Front: character side (avatar, name, tagline, bio)
- Back: person side (behind-the-mask profile details)
- Use case: discovery, following, and choosing your connection path
2) Backstage Pass / Lanyard
The Backstage view is the behind-the-mask side of a lanyard. It shows the person context and is where out-of-character decisions happen.
- When you see it: after flipping a lanyard
- What it’s for: deciding whether to connect with the person via Direct Monologue
- Best thought of as: the person-facing side of the same lanyard card
3) Masquerading Dating Pass / Lanyard
In Masquerading Dating, profiles still use the same two-sided lanyard pattern, but the intent is romantic/social matching.
- Front: character-first dating profile
- Back: dating/person details behind the mask
- Use case: dating discovery and direct person-to-person connection flow
How to Flip a Lanyard
- Open any lanyard card from Character Browser or Masquerading Dating
- Tap/click the card controls to flip
- Flip back any time to return to character view
What Each Action Does
- Star: follow that character so they are easier to find and prioritized in your view
- Connect with character: opens a Green Room for in-character chat
- Connect with person: starts a Direct Monologue (DM) path (out-of-character)
- Connect via Masquerading Dating: follows the dating connection flow to Direct Monologue (DM)
Quick Rule of Thumb
- Character connection = Green Room (in-character)
- Person or dating connection = Direct Monologue/DM (out-of-character)
Download Shareable Lanyard
Create a downloadable image of your character's lanyard card for sharing on social media. Access via the Cog menu > Download Shareable Lanyard. The image includes a QR code so others can scan to connect with your character. Perfect for sharing on socials and promoting your profile.
