Browsing Characters

The Character Browser (also called Masquerading As...) is where you discover public characters through their lanyard cards. You’ll see the character first, with the option to flip the lanyard and reveal who’s behind the mask.

What is the Character Browser?

The Character Browser is:

• A directory of all public characters
• Searchable and filterable
• Character-first: you meet the character before the person
• Great for discovering interesting characters

How to Access It

To browse characters:

1. Open Masquerading As... from the main menu
2. Browse the grid of lanyard cards
3. Use search to find specific characters
4. Click a card to open the lanyard and view more details

Understanding Lanyard Cards

Each character appears as a lanyard card with two sides:

• Front (character side): character image, name, tagline, and bio
• Back (behind the mask): the person’s profile (what they’ve chosen to share)
• You can flip the lanyard back and forth any time

Star (Follow) a Character

If you click the star on a character’s lanyard, you follow that character:

• Your followed characters appear near the top of your list
• When character updates appear in The Arena, you’ll see updates from characters you follow
• You can unstar at any time (you may be asked to confirm)

Connect With a Character vs Connect With a Person

From a lanyard card you can choose how to interact:

• Connect with the character: opens a new Green Room for in-character chat. The character is also automatically starred (followed) for you, so they'll appear near the top of your list
• Connect with the person: sends a Direct Monologue (DM) request (they can accept or decline). You can click the requester's avatar to view their lanyard before accepting

Sorting and Shuffle (Finding New Characters)

The Character Browser helps you keep your view organised while still discovering new characters:

• Your own characters appear first (you can’t connect with yourself)
• Starred (followed) characters appear next
• All other characters appear after that
• Use the Shuffle option to randomise the order and discover new characters (your characters still stay first)

Search

You can search for characters by:

• Character name
• Tagline keywords
• Other public profile details

Character Visibility

All characters on Masquerading are public and visible in the Character Browser:

• Every character you create is visible to the community
• All characters appear in the Character Browser and search
• There are currently no privacy settings for characters
• Please be mindful of what information you include in character profiles
