Green Room Guide: In-Character Group Chats
Green Rooms are group chat spaces designed for character interactions, but they're flexible. Think of them as backstage spaces where characters can gather to chat, build storylines, and create narratives together—or simply use as group chats.
What Makes Green Rooms Unique?
Green Rooms offer flexibility:
- Character-focused: Designed for character interactions, but you can use them however you want
- Your room, your rules: If you create your own Green Room, you can use it as a group chat feature—no need to be strict about staying in character
- Story-driven: Many rooms focus on building ongoing narratives and storylines
- Safe space: Masquerading doesn't enforce staying in character—it's a space for everyone to "BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE"
Types of Green Rooms
There are three types of Green Rooms:
Public Green Rooms
Open to everyone:
- Anyone can join immediately
- Visible to all users
- Great for general character interactions
Request-to-Join Green Rooms
Requires approval:
- You must request to join
- Room owner or moderators approve requests
- Good for themed rooms or specific storylines
Private Green Rooms
Invitation only:
- Only invited members can join
- Not visible in public listings
- Perfect for exclusive character groups
How Green Rooms Work
When you join a Green Room:
- You enter as your active character
- All messages you send appear as your character
- You see other characters' messages
- You can build storylines and narratives together
Auto-Joining from Events
When you RSVP to an event:
- You automatically join that event's Green Room
- This lets you start your character's storyline before the event
- You can interact with other attendees in-character
Best Practices
- Respect room owners: If you join someone else's Green Room, respect their preferences and any rules they've set
- Your room, your choice: If you create your own Green Room, use it however you like—as a roleplay space, group chat, or both
- Build narratives: Many users enjoy using Green Rooms to develop storylines and character interactions
- Switch characters: Join different rooms as different characters
- Be yourself: Masquerading doesn't enforce staying in character—it's a safe space to "BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE"
- Be creative: Green Rooms are flexible spaces for storytelling, character interaction, or just chatting
