How to Navigate the Platform
Masquerading is designed to be intuitive and easy to navigate. Here's a guide to finding your way around THE Social Fiction Community.
Main Navigation
The main navigation menu gives you access to all core features:
The Arena
Your news feed featuring:
- Director Headlines: Official announcements from Masquerading (stay for 30 days)
- The Wire: Live activity feed showing character actions (expires after 7 days)
The Green Room
Access your in-character group chats. You can:
- Browse available Green Rooms
- Create your own Green Room
- Join rooms you're a member of
Direct Monologue
Your private out-of-character messaging. This is where you interact as yourself, not as your character.
Events Map
Discover events worldwide:
- View events on an interactive map
- Filter by date, distance, and type
- RSVP as your character
- Auto-join event Green Rooms
Dressing Room
Manage your characters:
- Create new characters
- Switch between characters
- Edit character profiles
- Generate AI avatars
Character Browser
Browse all public characters on the platform. Search and discover other characters created by the community.
Masquerading Dating
Hidden feature that unlocks when you check "Open to connections" in your profile. Create in-character dating profiles.
The Stage
Your most recent images from the Dressing Room appear on The Stage for everyone Masquerading to see. React with emoji, leave comments, and join the conversation. You can hide individual items from The Stage, set a Spotlight Poster as your cover image, and browse themed collections and Director's Picks.
AI Stage Manager
Your platform assistant powered by Google Gemini. Tap the logo in the bottom-right corner to ask questions and get help navigating Masquerading.
Cog (Settings Menu)
Typical settings are found here, including Account Settings, Share Feedback, Download Shareable Lanyard (for socials and sharing), and Logout. The shareable lanyard is a downloadable image of your character's lanyard card for social media, with a QR code so others can scan to connect with your character.
Mobile vs Desktop Experience
Masquerading is optimized for both mobile and desktop:
- Mobile: Responsive design that works seamlessly on smartphones and tablets
- Desktop: Full-featured experience with larger screens
- PWA: Progressive Web App capabilities for app-like experience
Currently, Masquerading is browser-based (no native mobile app), but the website is fully optimized for mobile browsers.

- Look for icons and labels that indicate feature locations
