The Dressing Room: Managing Your Characters
The Dressing Room is your character management hub. This is where you create and edit your characters, manage your collection, and set up the identities you will use around the platform.
What is the Dressing Room?
The Dressing Room is where you manage your character collection. Think of it as your wardrobe—you can have multiple "outfits" (characters) and switch between them depending on the role you want to play.
Switching Between Characters
One of Masquerading's key features is the ability to create and switch between multiple characters. The Dressing Room is where you manage them, while The Lanyard and the Quick-Change Arch are the fastest way to swap between them once you are out in the app.
- Go to the Dressing Room to review your character lineup
- Create or edit the characters you want available
- When using the app, open the Quick-Change Arch to select who you are Masquerading As
- Your active character updates across The Arena, Events, Green Rooms, and other character-first spaces
When you switch characters, all your interactions in character-first spaces happen as that character.
Editing Characters
You can edit your characters at any time:
- Change the name: Update your character's display name
- Update the tagline: Modify the short description
- Change the avatar: Upload a new image or generate a new AI avatar
Menu path: Dressing Room → Manage Characters → tap the pencil icon on the character.
The Showreel (used by The Stage)
Inside the character editor, scroll to The Showreel section to manage Stage media.
- Add Media: Upload images or short videos
- Edit metadata: Add or update caption and optional event link
- Delete: Remove items you no longer want displayed
- Save flow: Save the media changes, then tap Save Info, then Close
Ordering: Showreel/Stage uses newest upload first. There is no manual drag-and-drop reordering right now.
Character Limits
Understanding character creation limits:
- Manual characters: Unlimited—create as many as you want
- AI-generated avatars: 5 per day limit (resets daily)
You can create unlimited characters manually, but AI avatar generation is limited to 5 per day to ensure fair usage.
Creating New Characters
From the Dressing Room, you can:
- Create a new manual character
- Generate a new AI avatar (if you haven't reached your daily limit)
- Import characters (if supported)
Best Practices
- Organize your characters: Give them distinct names and taglines so you can easily identify them
- Use different characters for different vibes: You might want one for conventions, one for themed nights, and one for original storytelling
- Keep characters active: Regularly switch between them so the right identity is ready for the right room or event
- Plan your AI avatars: Since you're limited to 5 per day, plan which characters need AI avatars
Why Multiple Characters?
Having multiple characters allows you to:
- Explore different personas, costumes, and narratives
- Participate in multiple events, scenes, or storylines simultaneously
- Join different Green Rooms as different characters
- Experience Masquerading from different perspectives without juggling separate accounts
