Online Tribe & Spectrum: Finding Your People

Not everyone connects the same way in real-world small talk or generic social feeds. Masquerading is for people who are comfortable online, who have ever felt they do not quite fit in, and who want friends and community through shared interests — gaming, cosplay, fandom, and creative identity.

A Safer Shape for Connection

Many people experience masking exhaustion — performing "normal" social behaviour on platforms that reward sameness. Social Fiction offers a different contract:

  • Choose your persona: Character, costume, or creative identity — not one rigid real-name profile
  • Text-first community: Green Rooms let you think, write, and engage at your pace
  • Shared interests upfront: Search by fandom, game, or topic instead of cold small talk
  • Direct Monologue when ready: Talk as yourself privately when you want to drop the performance

From Home, Still in the Fandom

You do not need to travel to every con to belong. On Masquerading you can:

  • Follow cosplay and event chatter on The Call Board and Stage
  • Join Green Rooms for your fandom or gaming community
  • RSVP on the Events Map and chat in the event Green Room before you attend — or when you cannot attend at all
  • Build lore and friendships that continue between conventions

Finding Your Tribe

  1. Create a character that reflects how you want to show up — full OC, casual persona, or fandom self
  2. Browse Green Rooms and join one that matches your interests
  3. Introduce yourself in character or plain voice — whatever fits the room
  4. Follow characters you enjoy on The Call Board
  5. Use Direct Monologue when you want a 1-on-1 conversation as yourself

You Are Not Alone Here

Masquerading's tagline is BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE. That includes showing up online when offline spaces feel loud, expensive, or exhausting. Your tribe might be in a Doctor Who Green Room, a gaming group chat, or a wedge community building toward the next con — all valid ways to belong.
