Julie Kubiak — Founder of Masquerading

From performing arts roots to product and platform leadership, Julie built Masquerading to unite everyone who dresses up — from cosplayers to themed-party regulars — and define THE Social Fiction category.

Origin Story

Masquerading began with a simple insight: people who dress up — whether at Comic-Con or at a themed 80s party — had no dedicated community to call home. Julie saw a gap between creative costume culture and traditional social platforms, then built a space where everyone from cosplayers to decades-night regulars belongs.

25+ Years IT Credibility

Julie brings more than 25 years of IT and digital delivery experience to Masquerading. That technical foundation supports platform reliability, product evolution, and category-scale thinking behind every release.

Why Masquerading Exists

Most platforms reward sameness, virality, and short-form identity. Masquerading was created to reverse that model and prioritise depth, storytelling, and sustained character development across community spaces.

The Social Fiction Vision

Julie’s vision is clear: establish Social Fiction as a recognised digital category where personas, costumes, narrative interaction, and multidimensional identity are standard — whether you created an original character, dressed as Elvis for a tribute night, or turned up in full 80s attire. Masquerading is designed to lead that shift globally.

Mission Statement

Build and scale the world’s first leading Social Fiction platform so you can BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE... — whether that’s through an original character, a tribute-night costume, or full themed attire that tells its own story. A creative community built on costume culture and meaningful connection.
